Cook-off held to raise funds for Tulsa Crime Stoppers

TULSA, Okla. — A cook-off between local law enforcement and fire departments was held to raise money for Tulsa Crime Stoppers.

The 10th annual Badges ‘n BBQ took place Saturday evening on 7th Street between Utica and Wheeling and was emceed by FOX23′s Sara Whaley.

Corporal Justin Green with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) said it’s a great opportunity to raise funds for Crime Stoppers.

“This is just a great opportunity to come out and to raise funds for the Crime Stoppers at work, Crime Stoppers and law enforcement obviously work in conjunction with each other so we appreciate them,” he said.

Green also said it’s important to raise funds for Crime Stoppers because they help keep the community safe.

“This is very important that this happens, because the funds raised from this event tonight go to help Crime Stoppers continue on, so we can solve crimes and make our communities better places for those for live there,” Green said.

Rib Crib officiated the competition and provided chicken, brisket, ribs and pork butt for teams to prepare.

Green said TCSO was going to have the best barbecue because it was prepared by “the best.”

“It was prepared by the best, we have the best secrets that we can’t share with anyone, you have to come out and you have to taste it for yourself,” he said.

The event also featured live music from Biscuits and Gravy and plenty of local craft beer from the local breweries in the area, Marshall Brewing Company, Cabin Boys, American Solera and Oklahoma Distilling Company.

Green said it was amazing to see people support law enforcement.

“You know, this is amazing for us, because with the environment we live in today and the climate that we’re in today, it’s amazing to see someone come out and support law enforcement in a positive manner,” Green said.
