Early voting for Oklahoma midterm election begins Wednesday

TULSA COUNTY, Okla. — Polls open Wednesday at 8 a.m. in Oklahoma for early voting for the Nov. 8 midterm election.

Tulsa County voters can cast their ballot at the Tulsa County Election Board in downtown Tulsa or at the Hardesty Library in south Tulsa.

Tulsa County Election Board Secretary Gwen Freeman said they expect the lines for early voting to be long at the two locations, but that shouldn’t discourage voters.

“We know the lines are going to be long, at Hardesty and [the election board], because they always are for big elections,” said Freeman. “But we have a very, very good staff of people that will be able to get you in and get you out in no time.”

Freeman also suggested voters review their sample ballot before heading out to the polls.

“It gives you a sense of if there are candidates who you need to study, or issues you need to study ahead of time,” said Freeman. “It also saves time, I believe at the polls, because you’ll be able to get in and out quicker.”

Notable state races include the gubernatorial race and the race for Jim Inhofe’s U.S. Senate seat.

Notable races in Tulsa County include run-off elections for Tulsa City Council seats in districts five, six and seven, and a Collinsville sales tax proposition.

Identification is required to vote. A federal or state photo ID will work, as well as passport, tribal issued photo ID or your voter registration card. If you don’t have your ID, you will not be turned away, but you’ll have to fill out a provisional ballot and sign an affidavit.

All registered voters are eligible for early voting. If you don’t get a chance to vote early, voters can cast their ballot in the general election Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Absentee ballots can be turned in by hand at the Tulsa County Election Board, and identification is required.
