Community rallies to support Tulsa firefighter, young father battling cancer

TULSA, Okla. — A 24-year-old Tulsa Firefighter and new dad is keeping a positive outlook after being diagnosed with cancer.

Harrison Moseby is a third-generation firefighter, following the footsteps of his dad and grandpa.

FOX23 told you in 2020 when he and his brother, Hayden, graduated the fire academy together.

He married his wife, Mallory, soon after, and they had their little girl, Kollyns, who is now 5 months.

A picture of health, no one ever expected the recent diagnosis.

“It’s a rare form of soft tissue cancer called Epithelioid Sarcoma,” Moseby told FOX23 Evening Anchor Sara Whaley. “It began a few months ago with just pain in my shoulder, and I thought I had injured it.”

However when a lump started to grow and doctors became concerned that it might be a tumor.

He says they got a biopsy which confirmed the cancer.

“It was definitely tough at first, just the shock of the situation,” he said.

However the outpouring of support from his fellow Tulsa Firefighters has been nothing less than amazing.

He says they have offered all sorts of help, from covering shifts, to getting groceries, mowing his yard even offering to babysit Kollyns.

They, as well as his church family, are all pulling together to help financially as well by organizing fundraisers and a GoFundMe page.

Harrison recently finished a 5-day fast track radiation treatment.

This week, he had surgery to remove the tumor.

He is optimistic, believing in faith, that the cancer is now gone.

“My message to other people would be that all of us go through hard times and circumstances, but I know God is faithful in the midst of our storms. I trust Him with the outcome of this situation,” he said. “I just hope that because of my circumstances, someday I’ll be able to help somebody else.”

FOX23 will keep you updated on his recovery.

If you’d like to help the Moseby family, there is a GoFundMe available.
