OWASSO, Okla. — A nonprofit is expanding to Tulsa and partnering with St. Jude.
Sky High for Kids is an organization that supports children battling cancer or other life-threatening conditions. It was founded by Brittany Franklin, who volunteered at St. Jude when she was competing in pageants as a teenager.
She met a young boy named Bryce Norwood during her time at the children’s hospital. Bryce sadly passed away, but his death inspired Brittany to help others.
“I think from that moment on, I realized that he didn’t have a lot of time, and so I felt like I didn’t have a lot of time, so I just went into action mode,” said Brittany.
After graduating from college, Brittany moved to Houston to start a career that would allow her to create a nonprofit organization. Brittany struggled with two jobs for years before stepping away from the oil and gas industry in 2020 to run Sky High full time.
Sky High hosts fundraising events in Texas, Louisiana, and now Oklahoma.
The organization will host a golf tournament in Owasso on April 26, at the Patriot Golf Club. The tournament is sold out, but there are still tickets available for the banquet on April 26 at 4:30 p.m. There are also tickets for a ladies brunch event at the Mayo on May 15th. Sky High shares their initiatives with FOX23:
- Funding a floor in the Inspiration4 Advanced Research Center (ARC) at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
- Supporting the first and only pediatric cancer immunotherapy center at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center in Houston.
- Building three training facilities in sub-Saharan Africa with Texas Children’s Hospital’s Global HOPE Program to increase capacity of medical care for the 100,000 children battling cancer and blood disorders in that region.
