‘Not acceptable:’ Tulsan shares concerns about TPD supervisors controversial comments

TULSA, Okla. — One Tulsan, who was at an anti-police protest in 2020, is reacting to controversial comments shared by a Tulsa Police Department Sergeant in a Citizen’s Academy session. The sergeant’s comments included the subject of anti-police protests in Tulsa.

In the audio recordings, the sergeant speaks about the anti-police riots arriving in Tulsa in 2020. The sergeant said, “this is not Oregon, this is not Seattle. If you act (exploitive) here, we’ll smoke your (exploitive) right?”

Briana Shea was at one of the protests at 71st and Memorial in 2020, which the sergeant referenced. She said that the sergeant should be pulled from the department.

“Nothing is more dangerous to America than a liberal white person,” the sergeant said, according to the audio.

On Tuesday, Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin said the sergeant’s opinions were “not acceptable” for an officer representative of the department, and that an investigation has begun.

The sergeant was placed on administrative duty.

FOX23 also spoke with the Michelle Brooks, the Communications Director for the City of Tulsa.

“The City of Tulsa agrees with Chief Franklin’s comments,” said Brooks.
