Two homes burn overnight in Sand Springs, investigators consider arson

SAND SPRINGS, Okla. — UPDATE, 3/28/2022, 9:05 a.m.: Sand Springs firefighters say a possible arson is under investigation, after two homes burned overnight.

They say Sand Springs and Berryhill responded around 1:00 a.m. when the first home started to burn. Firefighters say the persons who lived inside was able to get out safely. Then, an abandoned house nearby caught fire. Firefighters say the two houses were far enough apart, that it wasn’t an exposure situation.

Not long after that, grass and brush also caught fire in multiple different locations, and firefighters say this is all still under investigation. At this time, no one has bee arrested.

Firefighters say they had to let one of the fires smolder throughout the night because of the structure of the building and because of the way the roof collapsed.

Crews believe one of the homes was abandoned, but someone lived in the second.

The initial call was made around 1 a.m. Monday morning. Crews let part of the fire smolder because of the building’s structure.

However, the fires rekindled over several hours, growing twice in size.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
