New senior care facility set to open in north Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. — North Tulsa is getting a new residential care facility.

It’s called called the House of Eden.

“The need for north Tulsa is definitely the resources,” said Owner Kayla Nsien.

Nsien said the House of Eden is a home in a “commercial-like setting.”

The 7,000 square foot home is for people who need supervised care, but want to enjoy life almost as it was before they needed care.

“Elderly adults who are ambulatory, meaning they need to be able to actually walk into the facility, they need to be able to leave the facility,” said Nsien.

Nsien and her mother Darlene Reynolds are hoping to build something great.

“We are a team,” they said together.

Nsien explained they have a full staff of four medical professionals, including a nurse every day and night.

“There is nothing like this in north Tulsa. You have Saint Simeon’s here, which is great....but sometimes the actual residents or people in the community cannot afford that kind of care,” Nsien said.

Nsien was a former college soccer player who never thought she would be opening a facility like this but after injury, rehab and therapy, she found a love for helping. She also found a love for watching her mother provide this kind of care.

“We both live in north Tulsa. I’m born in north Tulsa. Currently we worship in north Tulsa. We find it very important and want to make sure our community knows that there are resources available,” she said.

To open a home like this, which is a dorm style like facility, Nsien said they had to sell it like a home and not just a facility.

“Usually, a home would be up to a max of five or six but now we are up to 16 so the regulations are a little bit different,” Nsien said. “This is bigger scale than what usually they see in a smaller home setting and we had to make sure we abided by all the ADA regulations, building code permits, fire sprinkler systems, fire marshals permits but everyone worked well with getting this done with us,” she said.

Now the House of Eden is a week away from their soft opening.
