Oklahoma family celebrates return of Navy officer after 3 years

TULSA, Okla. — A Pawhuska family celebrated the return of their beloved Navy officer at the Tulsa International Airport on Monday night.

Thatcher Taylor’s father, Sean Taylor, said Thatcher has been away for more than 1,000 days.

Thatcher’s family came to the airport with signs and a whole lot of love, waiting for the moment Thatcher would walk through the sliding doors.

When he arrived, he was greeted with hugs from the younger ones, a hug from his mom and a handshake then a hug from Sean.

Thatcher, who was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in October, said he hasn’t been able to come home as much as he would have liked due to where he was stationed.

“I haven’t been back for a few years, just kind of where I’ve been stationed and everything I’ve been doing, haven’t been able to make it home as much as I’d like to, but glad to make it this year and we’ll have some good holidays,” he said.

Thatcher also said he missed his family and friends.

“Miss family, miss being around Oklahoma, miss a lot of my friends, so to be home for that is good,” he said.

Thatcher gets to spend the next two weeks at home. His family said they will have a good time, and will probably play some pool, along with a few other recreation activities Thatcher likes.
