Owasso witnesses recent business boom

OWASSO, Okla. — Inflation and supply chain issues are not slowing growth in Owasso. Several new businesses are coming to town.

“We hear often that Owasso has enough chicken coffee and cannabis so we have definitely diversified out of that, we have added some national chains that people have been asking for for a very long time,” said Chelsea Feary, President and CEO of the Owasso Chamber of Commerce.

Feary says that the last time she saw growth like this was about 15 years ago when the Smith Farm Marketplace went in, near 96th and Garnett and that’s where a lot of news businesses are headed.

Businesses like Chipotle, Hawaiian Brothers, Andy’s Frozen Custard, and Dunkin’ Donuts are also moving in at the Southwest corner of 96th and Garnett.

“About 79 percent of people that live in Owasso work outside and about 75 percent of the workforce come from outside of Owasso so there’s this great traffic exchange on 169,” said Feary. “We’ve hoped that industry would provide more jobs and opportunity for people who live here to work here, but we love being a suburb too.”

It’s not just the big chains. The Best Little Hair House just opened in the Rosebud District earlier this year. Dodwell Designs, a home decor and furniture store will also open its doors in the Rosebud District in a couple of weeks.

Coffee businesses seem to be exploding in Owasso. Dutch Bros. is currently under construction on 116th Street North. Roots Coffee Company is planned at 106th Street North and 169. Scooter’s Coffee wants to build on 86th Street North across from Reasor’s. Jordy Jo Coffee is going in at 86th Street North and Main.

“It’s a good thing because as we know in Oklahoma that sales tax goes right back into our community, infrastructure, public safety even recreation and culture,” said Feary.

Sugar Llamas’ website says they’re planning to open near 96th and 129th East Avenue.

A new Ollie’s bargain outlet opens Wednesday at German Corner.

Airtopia Adventure Park will open soon off 86th Street North and 129th East Avenue.

You’ll see a new Warren Clinic under construction off 116th Street North and Ascension St. John is building a new rehabilitation hospital on 86th Street North, near the high school.

No one knew what the pandemic would do. But, fortunately, businesses in Owasso continued to boom, and now it’s seeing growth like it hasn’t seen in more than a decade.
