Bixby, Owasso to square off at TU in “Battle of the ‘Burbs”

TULSA, Okla. — Two of Oklahoma high school football powerhouses will take each other on at TU’s Chapman Stadium. Bixby and Owasso will play in the “Battle of the Burbs” at 7:35 p.m. Thursday, August 25 at Chapman Stadium.

The two have not played against each other since 2011, when Owasso beat Bixby 44-20.

But now, Bixby has beat Oklahoma high school football record with 49 wins in a row and is on a winning streak that has lasted for over three years.

Bixby’s coach, Loren Montgomery said, “This matchup will be an experience our athletes will always remember. A game of this magnitude, played in H.A. Chapman stadium, is great for both school systems as well as the entire Tulsa community.”

“We look forward to the challenge of kicking off the ‘22 season against a championship program like Bixby,” said Owasso head coach Bill Blankenship. “The opportunity to play this game at Chapman Stadium in front of a huge crowd will create incredible and lasting memories for our team, students, families and fans.”

QuikTrip is sponsoring the Battle of the ‘Burbs. Owasso will have a home field advantage for this game, but QT is planning to sponsor another game between the two teams at the University of Tulsa in 2023, with Bixby, having home field advantage that year.

“Working with these two schools to provide an experience for their programs, players and communities has been great,” said Mendi Treat, QuikTrip’s Marketing and Communications Manager. “QuikTrip is happy to be a part of it.
