BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Broken Arrow's Rooster Days festival is set to begin this weekend and run May 9-12.
The annual celebration is in its 88th year and will feature a variety of family-friendly activities at Central Park on Main Street.
Visitors can enjoy live music, fair-style food, plenty of carnival rides, a cornhole tournament and the Miss Rooster Days pageant. Organizers scheduled 17 performances and events on the main stage.
The event began as a way for farmers to bring their extra roosters to market, hence the name "Rooster Days".
Each year the Rotary Club of Broken Arrow sponsors a city-wide egg hunt. A series of clues written in riddles are posted online and the person who finds the egg wins $1,000 and a spot in the Rooster Days parade.
The parade will take place Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
About 40,000 people attended the event in 2018, and organizers tell FOX23 they hope the cooler temperatures expected this year will help bring in more.
