Route 66 preservation grant program gets new life

TULSA, Okla. — The Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program has new life after a recent resolution extended its length.

The grant program was set to end Monday but will now last through at least November 21.

Several Route 66 landmark sites in Oklahoma have benefited from the program including Circle Cinema, the Meadow Gold sign, the Rock Cafe, and the Round Barn.

Route 66 officials told FOX23 they are working to get legislation passed that would designate the Mother Road as a National Historic Trail -- replacing the Corridor Preservation Program with a permanent avenue for funding.
