SAND SPRINGS, Okla. — A woman died late Thursday in a Sand Springs house fire.
The deadly fire happened at a home near West 61st Street and South 155th West Avenue in Sand Springs.
When multiple agencies got the call around 10:45 p.m., the home was already engulfed in flames. Neighbors said they heard explosions.
“She did have a lot of oxygen bottles. She was on oxygen,” she Sand Springs Fire Chief Jeremy Wade. “There was some inside the house and inside the car, and I think probably that’s what they were hearing.”
One neighbor said his wife went over to try to help, but it was too late to save the woman who was trapped inside.
The woman’s son and his girlfriend made it out with injuries and smoke inhalation. An ambulance transported them to a nearby hospital.
Wade also said Sand Springs Fire tried to save the woman’s life, but the heat was too much to bear.
“The heat and everything pushed them out the door. They went around to the back. Still seeing a lot of fire, they ended up going to the neighbor’s house to have them call 911.”
The fire marshal is trying to find out if the home had working smoke detectors. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“The knockdown happened pretty quick, but there was an extensive amount of what we call overhaul, just because it was a single wide, manufactured home,” Wade added.
