SCOTFEST returns to Green Country: What you need to know

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — SCOTFEST is an authentic celebration of Scottish and Celtic culture with music, highland athletics, whisky tastings, vendors, and a great selection of beer and food.

Executive Director Steve Campbell said he expects more than 40,000 people to attend the 42nd Scotfest this year.

Folks can look forward to authentic live music, food, drinks, Highland Games events and Scottish actor Graham McTavish from Outlander.

There are Highland Games event each day for different genders and abilities.

Cars should be parked at NSU nearby and then you can shuttle over to the festival. You can snag a cheaper parking pass in advance here.

There are different ticket packages available here, with some limited or sold out.

FRIDAY, 9/16

Opening Night – gates open at 5:00 p.m.

SATURDAY, 9/17

Welcome Ceremony

This year’s opening ceremony will feature a few words from Outlander star Graham McTavish, a presentation of Broken Arrow’s official tartan to Broken Arrow city officials by Steve Campbell and the producers of SCOTFEST, and a tribute in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.

Live music all day – Rock, Folk, Traditional; Highland Dance competition also happens on Saturday

Highland Games

·Women’s Elite World Championship: This elite championship is an exclusive, invitation-only competition featuring 14 female competitors vying to best each other in seven different categories (sheaf toss, 28-pound-weight toss for height, clachneart, 28-pound-weight throw for distance, 14-pound-weight throw for distance, hammer throw and caber toss).

·Youth Athletics: This event is open to anyone between the ages of 13-17 to come out and try their hand at classic Highland Games.

American Grade 5 National Pipeband Championship

SCOTFEST, in association with MWPBA, is hosting the second annual National Pipeband Championship to recognize the pipe bands, pipers, and drummers who work daily to improve their craft and seldom receive the recognition they deserve. Jim Sim, president of the Midwest Pipe Band Association, will adjudicate the competition.

Breakfast w/ Graham McTavish

Graham McTavish will be having breakfast in the Comedy Tent with invited guests. This event is a special opportunity for those guests to share a meal and visit with Graham while he’s in Broken Arrow for SCOTFEST.

Highland Games

· Men’s A Class: These are athletes who, in the past 2 years, set personal records exceeding four or more of the established marks. They are the best of the best and have traveled to Broken Arrow to compete again. Great visuals and local angles are guaranteed.

o Caber-turned 100 lb. x 17 ft, 17 lb. stone throw – 40 ft

o 28 lb. weight for distance – 50 ft

o 56 lb. weight for distance – 25 ft

o 16 lb. Scottish hammer – 90 ft

o 22 lb. Scottish hammer – 75 ft

o 56 lb. weight for height – 12 ft
