South Tulsa neighborhood manhunt ends with one in custody

TULSA, Okla. — A Tulsa man was arrested after police say they walked in him strangling a woman before he jumped out the window and tried to run.

Tulsa Police told FOX23 they were responding to calls from neighbors at The Crossings At Silver Oaks apartment complex near 71st and Darlington when they heard a woman scream at the apartment in question.

TPD Sergeant Jeff Little said when officers knocked on the door, no one answered, but they could still hear the woman struggling inside. Officers kicked open the door, and that’s when Little said Armondo Johnson jumped out a back window and ran into the nearby Minshall Park neighborhood.

At times, residents were urged to stay in their homes and call 911 if someone strange came on their property or even tried to break in.

While searching for Johnson, TPD brought in K9 units, went door-to-door with guns drawn and searched the neighborhood using their police helicopter.

In the end, it was a neighbor who spotted Johnson behind a large bush in his backyard.

Tulsa Police say the woman is expected to be fine, although shaken up by the incident.

Johnson is facing a charge of kidnapping, domestic assault and battery by strangulation and resisting arrest.

He was arrested for domestic assault back in April of this year, those charged were dismissed though.
