St. Jude gives Oklahoma City family hope for son fighting leukemia

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An Oklahoma family is in Memphis right now, as their son is in the middle of a five-year cancer fight. St. Jude continues to give them hope.

FOX23 has followed 12-year-old Carson Dimsdale’s battle against acute myeloid leukemia since 2018. FOX23′s Michelle Linn met Carson when he was 8 years old and had already been fighting cancer for two years.

At their first meeting, it was Carson’s very first time out in public, just 19 days after his second stem cell transplant.

“He got his daddy’s immune system,” said Kori Dimsdale, Carson’s mother.

This time, Kori told me how the St. Jude staff gave them hope.

“The minute we walked in the door, our doctor looked at us and said it’s gonna be okay, we got this, he’s got this,” said Kori.

Carson and his family went home to Oklahoma City, and in the last four years they’ve been living life to the fullest.

They’ve been working on Carson’s bucket list: putting in a pool, taking a trip to the beach, getting a third puppy, and making memories last summer, camping out in the boat they made.

Sadly, Carson’s cancer is back. He’s endured two more bone marrow transplants.

Carson, who loves the color green, and who wants nothing more than to be at home with his three puppies is very sick. The leukemia is in his central nervous system. He’s been running fevers, and he’s inpatient, but a Dalmatian visit at the hospital lifted his spirits.

“You get to the best of the best, and this is the best of the best, and I don’t know how you can even put a price on that or even thank St. Jude enough,” said Kori.

The Dimsdale family isn’t giving up hope. Carson is scheduled for CAR T therapy, which is a type of immunotherapy using his own cells, on April 25.

You can help families, like the Dimsdales who have spent so much time at St. Jude over the last six years, and have never received a bill for Carson’s treatment, by supporting the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway.
