OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Oklahoma State Sen. George Burns (R-Pollard) filed a bill that would provide tax exemption to certain nonprofit hospitals.
Senate Bill 394 (SB 304) would apply certain nonprofit hospitals to the list of entities that receive tax exemption on goods and services.
“In rural communities, hospitals provide essential medical services, and provide critically needed jobs in the area,” Burns said. “Unfortunately, many community hospitals have had to shut their doors over the years. Giving these nonprofits a sales tax exemption is one step we can take to provide relief and financial assistance to these facilities as they continue to serve Oklahomans.”
501(c)(3) organizations in county or government buildings with populations less than or equal to 100,000 people are eligible for this exemption.
SB 304 can be considered after the legislative session convenes on February 6.
