Teenage girl arrested in shooting, killing of Broken Arrow 16-year-old

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Broken Arrow Police confirmed a suspect has been arrested in the deadly shooting of 16-year-old Dacari Green.

On the morning of Jan. 24, Dacari was found lying in the road in front of his home due to a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

FOX23 previously reported that officers and EMS rendered medical aid, but Dacari later died at the hospital.

Court documents said police arrested 15-year-old Ky’leigh Deon Shaw on Wednesday after text messages led investigators to believe she was involved.

Shaw is now facing first degree murder charges. Police said she will be charged as an adult.

An affidavit explained that investigators believe this could be gang-related as a witness, and Dacari’s last phone call, said suspects believed Dacari to be an “informant” or a “rat.”

The witness told police Dacari had been a part of a group phone call with multiple other people where they accused him of this allegation, but the witness said Dacari had proven his innocence by the end of the call, according to court documents.

Despite Dacari denying this, the witness said three people stayed out of the call because they refused to believe Dacari’s claims.

According to the witness, one of the three people was referred to as NuNu.

Court documents revealed that police later identified NuNu as Ky’leigh Deon Shaw after another witness called in an anonymous tip saying Shaw told them she was involved in the shooting of the victim.

The same witness identified another person as also being involved and police later found text messages between that person and Shaw after serving a search warrant on Shaw’s phone.

These texts included videos of the two driving around, playing with guns and statements from Shaw disclosing to an unknown number how she was involved in the shooting, according to court documents.

Court records explained some of the texts mention how she thought police would want to know who she was with, how she believed she would get charged as an adult and that her father wanted her to turn herself in to authorities.

The unknown number continuously told Shaw to not speak to police and not to give any names, according to court documents.

After police canvassed the area Dacari was found, court records said retrieved security footage from neighboring houses that showed a dark SUV enter the neighborhood and flee shortly afterward.

Police expect more arrests will be made in this case.

A visitation was held for Dacari on Wednesday, and his funeral will be held on Thursday, Feb. 2.
