‘That’s us’: Broken Arrow man winner of St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway

OWASSO, Okla. — Just minutes after the winning ticket was pulled on Sunday, a representative from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was on the phone with the grand prize winner.

“I don’t know if you were watching, but there was some big breaking news,” FOX23 Anchor Michelle Linn, told winner Steven Orrick on the phone.

The good news was Orrick was watching.

“I’m still trying to process,” Orrick, of Broken Arrow said.

Ninety minutes later, Stephen, his fiancé Shellie and his 13-year-old daughter Izzie arrived to their new home in Owasso’s Stone Canyon neighborhood.

The family toured the home during an open house a few weeks ago, so it wasn’t the first time to see the approximately 2,600 square feet home that features three bedrooms and two and a half baths.

Orrick, who lives in Broken Arrow, said he has family in the area.

“Owasso’s not too far away, I actually I grew up in Owasso,” Orrick said. “My mom lives about two miles north of here.”

Orrick said he bought two tickets this year and last year and he still can’t believe they won.

“It’s like you think about it ahead of time but you just don’t know until it happens and it’s like, oh wow, this really just happened,” Orrick said. “St. Jude is fabulous whether you win or not it’s just nice to donate to St. Jude.”

Orrick said he still needs a few days to decide whether they’ll move in or sell the new home.

This year’s goal was to sell 14,500 tickets, raising $1.45 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Proceeds will go toward general needs to run St. Jude, where no family ever receives a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food.
