The Medford Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney said in a news release that they are investigating the death of Barbara Novaes, 61. She was found dead under her porch in a recycling bin by an officer.

WXFT says Novaes was reported missing by her son who was living with her. He told police he thought she went out to get her nails done the day before but hadn’t seen her since. He told officers that he found her keys, phone, and purse. The front door was also found open with her car in the driveway.

Officers did a search of Novaes’ home, along with any other places she may have gone at the start of their investigation. Around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, her body was found under the porch of her home, according to a news release. There were no obvious signs of trauma but police are investigating her death as suspicious based on how she was found.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, and the police department, is asking residents if they have seen anything unusual or have any information to call the Medford police at 781-395-1212. The investigation is ongoing.
