UPDATE (12//08; 3:14 p.m.) ― The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has issued a statement on Thursday’s Oklahoma school threats.

UPDATE (12/08; 2:06 p.m.) — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced Thursday afternoon that they are working alongside local law enforcement agencies to investigate the hoax threats.

The FBI released the following statement around 1:50 p.m.:

“The FBI is aware of the numerous swatting incidents across the state of Oklahoma and the nation wherein a report of an active shooter at a school is made. We are working alongside our law enforcement partners in identifying the source of the hoax threats. Due to the ongoing status of the investigation, we are unable to provide more details. However, it is important to note that law enforcement will use all available resources to investigate a school threat until we determine whether it is real or not. Investigating hoax threats drains law enforcement resources and diverts us from responding to an actual crisis. Hoax threats can shut down schools, cause undue stress and fear to the public, and cost taxpayers money.

We urge the public to remain vigilant, and report any and all suspicious activity and/or individuals to law enforcement immediately.”

Tulsa Police say they responded to Will Rogers High School, near 4th and Harvard, just after 10 a.m. Thursday.

They say a call came in about a possible shooting, however they say it was a false report and no one was in danger. Tulsa police and Oklahoma Highway Patrol still responded to the school but classes have resumed as normal.

Tulsa Public Schools released a statement around 12:30 p.m.:

Today, Rogers College Middle and High School experienced a fraudulent call made to the Tulsa Police Department that falsely reported a shooting at the school. The Tulsa Police Department and Tulsa Public School Campus Police team responded immediately to the school, conducted a full sweep, and confirmed that this was a false report. At no time were any students in danger. We are grateful to our law enforcement partners for responding so quickly and so thoroughly to keep our students safe. We will continue to support the Tulsa Police Department in any way that we can as they investigate this incident.

This now appears to be an issue at several Oklahoma schools.

Also, Thursday morning around 10:15 a.m., Stillwater Police Department (SPD) confirmed they got a threat about an active shooter at Stillwater Junior High and determined it was also bogus. Chief Watts diverted officers to respond to other schools in the area in case of a “swatting call.” They locked down several schools in that area with help from multiple authorities.

SPD released a statement shortly after 11:30 a.m.:

“We take all threats of violence against our schools seriously. I am very proud of the coordinated response from the Stillwater Police Department and our partnering agencies. We remain vigilant and prepared to respond to any incidents that threaten the safety of our community,” said Chief Watts.

Enid Police also posted on their Facebook concerning a large police presence at Enid High School based on a phone threat. They too say all students are safe but the school was locked down. They say “no legitimate threat has been identified and it is believed to be a false call.”

Durant Public Schools posted they are working to address a hoax threat at their high school. They put their sites on lockdown as a precaution but say there is no active shooter and school is continuing as normal.

Miami Public Schools confirm their police department received a bogus active shooter call this morning at the Miami Junior High. “This is false information. Officers are on site now, and all students are safe. This call has been going to schools all across the state today,” the district posted online.

Medford Public Schools say Grant County officials received an active shooter call around 11 a.m. They say while to “appears to be statewide hoax” they went into lock down immediately. Several officials responded to the school and cleared the building.

Ardmore Police Department says their dispatch received an automated call saying there was an active shooter at Ardmore High School. Officers searched the school and deemed it clear but plan to continue to have a presence at the schools.
