Weather Experiment Wednesday – Making raindrops inside!

TULSA, Okla. — FOX23′s Mike Grogan and Mikayla Smith went to Discovery Lab to make it rain … indoors!

Director of Education, Chip Lindsey, showed them how to create a small simulation of rainfall using:

  • A Fishbowl
  • Warm Water
  • Dry ice
  • Bubble solution

In the experiment, very cold air meets up with a warm, wet environment inside the fishbowl. This readily creates clouds that quickly spill out of the fishbowl.

These clouds are made up of millions of microscopic water droplets. Once you put the bubble solution inside the fishbowl, the clouds then can be gathered in your hand. This allows those microscopic droplets to coalesce and eventually form raindrops that will drip off your hand to a surface below.

Remember to use hand protection when handling dry ice!
