Witness speaks out after attempting to help an ORU student who was killed in a car accident

TULSA, Okla. — Seth Glenn said Wednesday night’s accident at 71st and Yale was something he will never be able to forget.

“It was horrible,” Glenn said.

Though he wishes he could forget.

“It was not a good sight,” he said.

Tulsa Police said the person who caused the accident was likely intoxicated and was driving an SUV before slamming into another car so hard it carried it through the intersection before eventually hitting a retaining wall.

The crash left Oral Roberts University (ORU) soccer player Eugene Quaynor trapped inside his car.

“I saw the car catch on fire and took off over there,” Glenn recalled to FOX23. “[I] tried busting the window out and another guy that was there actually busted it out.”

Police said some people nearby used rocks from the retaining wall to break their way through the window of the car. Glenn said he was one of those people trying to help get Quaynor out of his car.

“We both started yanking on the door to open it up, and it was locked,” he said. “We couldn’t get it unlocked. It was stuck somehow. I tried pulling him through the car, but he was stuck with his seatbelt on. He just was not moving.”

The ORU community is reeling from this loss, and ORU Athletics postponed their upcoming soccer match Saturday in the wake of this tragedy.

Glenn told FOX23 he can’t imagine what his school, friends and family are going through.

“It was horrible. I heard the guy was drunk who was driving the SUV, and it makes my heart go out to the families who have lost people from this kind of accident,” he said.

Police said the person who crashed into Quaynor’s car tried to flee the scene but was held down by paramedics until police arrived. Police also said the driver was unable to walk and likely “severely intoxicated.”
