Woman found dead on porch of east Tulsa house

TULSA, Okla. — A woman was found dead in an east Tulsa neighborhood and a house fire is being investigated.

The Tulsa Fire Department (TFD) said just before 6 a.m., first responders were called to a home near East Admiral Place and Memorial Drive, where a 46-year-old woman was found dead on the porch of the house.

TFD said she had some burns, but they are unsure of the cause of death. Firefighters put out a small fire that was isolated to one room. TFD also said it was unclear if smoke detectors were being used at the home.

TFD said another person who is staying at the house came home, found the woman inside and dragged her to the front porch.

“I do know that one of the individuals that lived here had gone on an errand and was not home at the time of the fire, had arrived home, saw smoke and tried to go in the back door, but it was too hot, opened that front door, located the victim and pulled her out,” said TFD’s Andy Little. “Unfortunately, it appears that she had already succumbed to injuries or whatever the cause of death was at that time.”

TFD said a dog also died. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

TFD said there will be an event Tuesday in order to help boost public awareness regarding the importance of working smoke alarms and install smoke alarms where needed.
