OSU headed to Fiesta Bowl to take on Notre Dame

Oklahoma State will ring in the new year at the Fiesta Bowl. Announced Sunday, the Cowboys will play Notre Dame at noon CT on New Year’s Day at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

The Cowboys lost to Baylor Saturday in the Big 12 Championship game 21-16 but finished first in the regular season Big 12 standings and No. 9 in the final College Football Playoff rankings. Notre Dame is 11-1 and finished fifth in the final CFP rankings. It’s the first meeting between the two teams.

It will be OSU’s fifth trip to a New Year’s Six bowl game since 2010. It’s also the 16th season in a row the Cowboys will play in a bowl game. That’s the sixth-longest active streak in the country. OSU has won four of its last five bowl games including a 37-34 win over Miami in the Cheez-It Bowl last season.

OSU’s history at the Fiesta Bowl includes a 16-6 win over BYU in 1974 and a 41-38 overtime win over Stanford in 2012. It’s Notre Dame’s sixth trip to the Fiesta Bowl. The Irish are 1-4 all-time in the bowl game.
