Fans can vote for new Tulsa indoor football team name

TULSA, Okla. — You can vote for the team name for Tulsa’s new indoor football team.

Currently known as the Tulsa Indoor Football Team, the new franchise announced the final five team name suggestions on Tuesday.

Andy Scurto, the new team’s owner and owner of the Tulsa Oilers, said they were pleased with fan turnout for name ideas. Thousands of suggestions were submitted online.

“It is obvious we have a lot of excitement for Indoor Football in Tulsa and we are going to have tremendous fan support,” said Scurto. “There were many great suggestions and it was difficult to narrow it down to only a few. It will be exciting to see the fan’s final choice.”

Final team name suggestions:

  • Bison
  • Crude
  • Oilers
  • Tornado
  • Wildcatters

Scurto announced the decision to bring an indoor football team to Tulsa on July 26. The new team will be a part of the Indoor Football League (IFL). The IFL was created following the merger of the United Football League and the Intense Football League in 2008.

Tulsa is the 16th current franchise to join the league, which has teams in 13 states.

Fans can vote for their favorite team name online until Sept. 10, when the new franchise name will be announced publicly at the annual Tulsa Oilers Open House event at the BOK Center.

Tickets are on sale now for eight home games in 2023. The season starts in March.
