Kids cooking classes kick off at Mother Road Market

TULSA, Okla. — Mother Road Market kicked off their new year of cooking classes for kids.

Six-year-old Jasper Wilson was one of more than 20 kids learning how to cook minestrone soup at Mother Road Market’s first cooking class of the new year for kids.

“It’s about friends, cooking with them and helping each other,” Jasper said.

This was Jasper’s fourth cooking class at Mother Road Market.

His mom said he likes to cook a lot at home.

Chef Bill Harris, with Planet First Catering, said the kids helped cook the soup along with homemade crackers, pinch cookies and Italian soda for their parent or caretaker.

“We’re teaching them that they’re cooking for not only themselves, but also sharing in the love of food with their loved one,” he said.

After doing several of these classes, Chef Harris had a little advice to get kids involved in the kitchen.

He said to always have project for them like copping vegetables or sifting flour.

“Keep them engaged, because they’re going to become disruptive and they’re going to become bored,” Chef Harris said.

Mother Road Market’s cooking classes for kids happen every first Saturday of the month and costs $40 per child.
