Lego convention wraps up in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. — Brick Fest Live hit Tulsa for the very first time over the weekend, drawing Lego maniacs of all ages to the Cox Convention Center in downtown Tulsa.

Devin Jack, a manager at the event, said more than 6,000 people came to the event.

He said seeing how kids work together makes the event special.

“Seeing the kids come to life here, you know, just build some things with their imagination and just like have a pile of Legos in front of them, just build something amazing and just display it on the table where everybody else can see, seeing the kids collaborate like that together, is what makes this event special,” Jack said.

People were able to construct their own creations at build tables, build cars and race them, take pictures with giant characters made of Lego and play in a Lego pit with more than 10,000 Legos.

People could also meet some familiar faces.

“We are Manny and Nestor, season one father and son from the hit show ‘Lego Masters’ on FOX,” said Manny Garcia.

Manny said he started building with Legos at the age of five when his dad, Nestor, bought him his first set.

“Every single box of Lego comes with a set of instructions. I think that’s where the magic comes. Following the instructions and actually seeing something that’s just a bunch of loose pieces on the table being built into something great,” Manny said.

“I believe it’s like a piece of work. You have a blank piece of table, and all of a sudden you start creating and building. And, that’s the most amazing thing, that whoever you might be. Whatever age you might be, and you start creating what’s in your mind, and you just start to enjoy the relaxation just building things with your hands,” said Nestor.

Organizers said Brick Fest Live in Tulsa was a success and they hope to hold the event here again in the future.
