ODOT closes ramps near I-44, BA Expressway for bridge maintenance

TULSA, Okla. — Starting today, several ramps near the I-44 and Broken Arrow Expressway will be closed as Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews begin bridge maintenance.

Two lanes of traffic will be open along this interchange, and the ramp closures are expected to last one week.

“We had to close those two ramps, which merge down into that one collector road,” said ODOT spokesperson TJ Gerlach. “We’ve given the contractor a week to do just that.”

While the ramps are expected to reopen on Jun. 27, the overall construction is expected to last throughout the summer. It’s part of a large project by ODOT to repair and bolster bridges across the state.

The BA Expressway and I-44 interchange accounts for lots of traffic around Tulsa. But, there are ways around the area.

“If you’re on the BA, you’re going to need to go to the westbound I-44. If you’re coming from Broken Arrow, you might want to get on 169 to travel to I-44, then take the exit for easier access,” said Gerlach.

I-44 will be reduced to just one lane during the overnight hours.
