Pryor roper makes leaderboard in Vegas National Finals Rodeo

Las Vegas, Nev. — This year marks Coleman Proctor’s seventh trip to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas, Nev. and so far he remains on the leaderboard.

As of Tuesday, Proctor pulled in $48,629 at the NFR and has won $159,321 over the course of the 2022 season, which includes his NFR earnings.

“Let’s see how strong we can finish!” Proctor said on a Facebook live Tuesday ahead of round 6.

In 2021, Proctor and his roping partner Logan Medlin finished eighth in the team roping header world standings with $168,986 and earned $106,231 at the NFR, placing in six rounds and winning Round 5 outright and splitting the Round 9 win.

NFR consists of a series of ten performances, one each day, starting Dec. 1 through Dec. 10. It features 120 of the top contestants in the world, with winners vying for a share of a more than $10 million purse.

As of Tuesday, Proctor has won a purse of $164k putting him in sixth on the leaderboard.

“After Round 1, I got the start good (Friday) night...,” said Proctor, 37, of Pryor, Oklahoma in an article posted on the Wrangler Network. “It feels comfortable. When you get a good roll and you get your timing out here, it gets to feeling a lot better.”

Proctor said a lot of his success is because of his horse.

“I think he is the best horse for the set-up out here,” he said. “He definitely fits me the best. He has done a great job. He was awesome last year (at the NFR).”

Proctor also said hard work has led to this year’s success, crediting his roping partner Logan Medlin.

“Our run is something we have really worked at and developed,” Proctor said of he and Medlin. “I’ve got a lot of fresh steers; we break them in, and we go at them. We rope 70 to 80 a day there for about three days in a row, and then it’s time for Logan to leave because my old, slightly not-as-athletic body is worn out by then. He will come back a couple weeks later, and we can rejuvenate.”
