Tulsa music store owner records album in Nashville, Tennessee

TULSA, Okla. — The owner of the iconic Tulsa music shop recently recorded his very first album in “Music City,” Nashville, Tennessee.

Drew Winn is the owner of Guitar House of Tulsa, near E. 15th St. and S. Harvard Ave. They specialize in rare and high end guitars.

Winn bought the store in 2015, but said the store dates back to the ‘60s.

His high-end guitars draw musicians young and old, some famous, others still dreaming of forming a band.

“We’ll have a couple of kids playing, you know, simultaneously at this end of the store and that end of the store and that kids likes what that kid’s playing and a band is formed,” Winn said.

While on trip to Nashville, a close friend and session musician, Tom Bukovac, convinced Winn to record an album, his first ever.

“It felt good to get back to my roots of why I started doing this in the first place,” Winn said.

On his self-titled album, Winn sings and plays acoustic guitar with a full band.

He said he didn’t plan to record an album, it just happened organically.

He also said with today’s technology and the local music scene here in Tulsa, people don’t have to go to “Music City” to make their music dreams come true.

“We all take Tulsa for granted, and this place is thriving with great music, great musicians, I mean, great venues to go see music,” he said.

“But if you’ve been around here long enough, you know, you just become used to it,” Winn also said.

Winn encourages anyone considering making an album to go for it, saying that it was one of the most rewarding experiences he’s had in his whole career dealing with guitars.
