Uber driver sentenced to 7 years in prison for 1st degree manslaughter

TULSA, Okla. — Omar Baabbad sat emotionless in Tulsa County Court as his victim’s family read their Victim Impact Statements to the Court.

One of those statements was written by the 9-year-old daughter of the victim.

A jury convicted Baabbad of 1st-degree manslaughter last month for the death of his passenger, Jeremy Shadrick who died of his injuries when Baabbad ran him over in June 2020.

District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler asked the court to sentence Baabbad to 30 years, calling the jury’s sentence of a range of 5-10 years invalid.

Baabbad’s defense attorney said he would file an appeal.

Shadrick’s wife LeAnne has filed a Wrongful Death civil lawsuit against Baabbad and Uber Technologies that is pending in court.
