Gilgeous-Alexander out for start of Thunder training camp with injured knee

The face of the Thunder franchise will miss the start of Thunder training camp.

The team announced Wednesday that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has a grade two left MCL sprain (knee) and will be out for the start of training camp. According to the Thunder, SGA will be re-evaluated in two weeks. The Thunder’s second preseason game is two week’s from Wednesday’s announcement. It will be played at the BOK Center in Tulsa on October 5 against the Mavs.

The 24-year-old averaged 24.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.9 assists in 56 games last season but missed the final ten games of the season with a right ankle injury.

The Thunder has already lost the second overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft for the season because of injury. Chet Holmgren had surgery to fix a Lisfranc injury in his right foot that he hurt in an exhibition game.

Oklahoma City starts preseason camp next week.
