Sara Whaley, FOX23 News

Sara Whaley joined the FOX23 News team in August, 2013. She is thrilled to be reporting news in her hometown as a multi-media journalist. Born and raised in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Sara didn’t travel far for her college degree. She played collegiate softball for the University of Tulsa while majoring both in Communications and Education. Sara graduated in 2009 and taught high school English for three years before taking a leap of faith into the profession she loves. That’s when she became a part of the FOX23 family for the first time. She was hired as an associate producer in August 2012 and eventually did some fill-in reporting. By January 2013, she got a full-time reporting job at KSWO in Lawton, Oklahoma. She did a special report on the problems of Feral Hogs within the first month, a story that included hog hunting. That’s when she knew she wasn’t in Tulsa anymore. Sara also notes covering the Moore and Shawnee tornadoes as a highlight of her reporting career. On a lighter note, she will never forget interviewing Johnny Depp when he came to Lawton for a screening of “The Lone Ranger”. Sara spent six months in Lawton before making her way back to FOX23. She is a family girl through and through. When she’s not working, Sara loves to run. In fact, she’s run four marathons and five half marathons. The November Route 66 Marathon here in Tulsa is her favorite.
